Tour Description
The highlights of this tour are the Hanseatic city of Rostock, the more than 130 year old steam train Molli, the mighty Minster of the 13th century and lovely beach promenades. Your guide will take you on a journey along the Baltic coast, taking in history, landscape and bustling promenades. In the morning Rostock will impress you with its gothic town wall and gates, the pretty market square with the town hall in its blend of styles, the historic university and the popular boulevard. An inside visit to St. Marien church presents the famous astronomical clock from 1472. After having explored the old town, try some local food and beer in a traditional restaurant or beergarden. Your next stop in the afternoon is the medieval Gothic abbey of Doberan, called Minster, with its rare preserved interior. Step back in time and marvel at the architectural, scientific and artistic mastership of the monks. Your guide points out the most fascinating altars, burial places and sculptures to you and gives insight into the life in the monastery. The town of Bad Doberan itself was a popular summer residence for the family of the Duke of Mecklenburg. The central square is lined with the historic villas and parlors. Right through it all, the Molli train steams its way towards the coast. Embark on a scenic and nostalgic train ride to Kuehlungsborn. Kuehlungsborn is a lively and large resort with a long promenade and many shops, cafés and hotels. Enjoy a ride or walk along the old villas in the typical "spa style" from the 19th and early 20th century and maybe lean back and enjoy coffee or ice-cream in a local café with a view to the sea or the promenade. After this leisurely stop, the tour returns to the port via the scenic coastal landscape.
